I had originally been waffling between Labs 4 Rescue and Our Companions as my charity of choice should I be the lucky winner.
Then today I came across this video and it really touched me.
You all know how much I love the Labrador breed, but what a lot of you don’t know is my second love is Beagles.
Yes, I’m sorry Labs 4 Rescue and Our Companions but if I win the cash, the money is going to the Beagle Freedom Program.

I think that is a GOOD choice. Beagles do not get the publicity that some other breeds get.. when it comes to rescues.
Thanks Frankie, I don’t think any animal should be used for research and you’re right, I very rarely hear anything about beagle rescues.
How sad to think of them or any animal being used for research. Great choice Jodi! My uncle is a big beagle fan, he has been raising them for as long as I can remember.
I said that to Hubby last night, I said we have people on death row, why can’t we research on them?
Maybe my next dog will be a beagle! Tell your uncle to send me some pictures. 🙂
I love beagles too. I was trying to see where the dogs in that video came from, but they never said. The beagles in that video looked very healthy (not socialized but healthy). I couldn’t see that that organization had any beagles on their website other than some they rescued from a lab in Spain. Do you know where they were from?
I couldn’t find it on their website but I did find this article that states it was a Northern California research lab.

They did look like they were well fed and the article didn’t indicate what type of testing was done on the dogs, still sad for them but happy they are finally free. It made me want one. 🙂
That was an interesting article. Maybe the deal was not to say where they actually came from in exchange for being released to that organization? I don’t otherwise understand why they are so vague about the details.
Oh well, hopefully they found homes. 🙂
I imagine you are probably right. If animal rights people knew where it was taking place I’m sure there would be a lot of issues!
I also saw where they rescued the 40 beagles from a lab in Spain, which is still vague in terms of location.

I love to hear about rescue stories like that and I feel so bad for what they must have been put through. It makes me cry just to think about it. I think beagles are awesome dogs!

OMG that video broke my heart! Those beautiful eyes! How can they be alllowed to subject dogs to that kind of life? WTH! I really had no idea that dogs are used in scientific experiments & kept in research labs/cages. How can this be not only legal but government sanctioned?! WTF!
