Airline Employees Abuse Disable Veteran and His Service Dog – Dallas, Texas

According to this veteran two different United Airlines employees kicked his dog and then another employee allegedly called him retarded.  Are you freakin’ kidding me?

You kicked a dog.

In the airport.

You do know that non-working dogs aren’t typically allowed in airports right?  So this wasn’t some stressed out, out-of-control dog hell-bent on destruction.

It’s what we call a service dog.  Think about those words.  Service.

Most service dogs I know are mellower than mellow, they would never jump, bark or even lick someone while working.

And who the hell says retarded anymore?  The politically correct term is mentally challenged or handicapped.

If you’re going to act like a freakin moron, please at least use the correct terminology.

You couldn’t have picked a bigger demographic of people to piss off.  Veterans, people who love veterans and animal lovers.  Good thing you just merged with Continental, they should be able to carry your ass for a while.

I think I just figured out why United only serves peanuts on their flights,  apparently their employees aren’t capable of handling much more than that.

Whoo Hoo Wednesday!!

Ohio Removes Pit Bull From Vicious Dogs List –  Colombus, OH

Um, this bit of news is like 2 1/2 months old.  I know it’s shameful, but it just came across my facebook page a couple of days ago, either way you look at it, it’s great news indeed!

Ohio was one of those moronic states that thinks just because a dog looks a certain way, he acts a certain way as well.

Thankfully more and more towns and states are beginning to wise up that in most instances it is not the dogs that are fault, but irresponsible owners.

Watch out Miami/Dade you’re next!

Check out this post from Life With Dogs.

Do you think it matters that this Mayor is a woman?

Anything got your dander up this week?  Something good rock your world?  Please share in the comments.

  1. Sorry to say that I am not surprised by the airline employees’ conduct. I have a relative in the industry and that is about the right mentality. I avoid flaying at all costs.

  2. I’m very upset with what I read. what makes people so intollerant? kindness is non existant these days. is it me or are people just raising IDIOTS? I wish I was there when it happened. i’d be in jail right now. I will never fly United ever again.

    • People have become very self-centered and self-absorbed and rarely think of others. The old saying, “do unto others as you would have done to you” has fallen by the wayside. It is very sad. I won’t fly United either.

  3. I’m in agreement with all of you . . . haven’t flown in I don’t know how long and wouldn’t subject my sweet puppies to that trauma. Kindness and civility are in SUCH short supply . . . WHEN did we as a society decide it’s perfectly acceptable to not be? ESPECIALLY to veterans and animals????? Sad, sad, sad!!!!

    • I can’t say I would NEVER put my dogs on a plane because I can’t know what circumstances might compel me, but I really don’t think I would to begin with. If I can’t drive with them I don’t go.

Society has become really one sided and self-centered, that is the only way I can describe it.

  4. Are you calling me a moron because I live in Ohio:)) lol!
I was so glad when Ohio finally stepped it up on this!!

    • No darling, I’m not calling you a moron (unless you’re in the legislature and voted for BSL, if that’s the case well all bets are off.) 🙂 I wish the entire country could catch this bus and start really penalizing the assholes, not the responsible people.

  5. How awful that someone would treat one of veterans that way, after all they’ve done to serve us! And then to kick their service dog too. Sickening.

Glad to hear the good news about Ohio though! What a fantastic step in the right direction!!

    • Donna, it just boggles my mind how insensitive people have become, to everything and everyone. It is very sad.

      Whooo Hooo Ohio!

  6. You have to wonder how stupid the airline workers are to treat any customer that way, but then I’m wondering if they have a strong union that will protect them.

It does seem like BSL is going in the right direction as more lawmakers learn that the laws are self defeating.

    • I can’t imagine in this day and age with so many options available and so many ways to share your disappointment that more companies are not focusing on customer service!

Let’s hope more states join the anti-BSL movement!

  7. Re the first story, I’m SO disgusted. Good g-d. No one should have to suffer through such an ordeal, especially a disabled veteran. And what kind of person could possibly think it’s OK to kick a service dog? If this incident had happened in NYC where people don’t hesitate to speak their mind EVER, I’d like to think that someone would have stepped in and said something and maybe even kicked the airline employees in return!

I hope that the media and a top notch civil rights lawyer really get behind this guy and his dog so that United is ultimately shamed into doing the right thing, which in my mind is FIRING those responsible and doing whatever needs to be done to ensure that its employees treat all passengers with respect in the future. Again, I’m SO disgusted.

Re the second story, thank g-d some people somewhere are suddenly embracing some common sense when it comes to BSL, which can’t be eradicated quickly enough in my opinion.

    • I still can’t believe this actually happened, it sickens me to know end. I do hope someone said something, I can tell you if I was there I sure would of!

BSL sucks, wait til you hear what Montreal is doing. Unreal.

  8. United Airlines does not seem to have a very good repuation. First they break guitars, then they ban pit bull type breeds (I think they have retracted this now?), and now they kick service dogs. If they want to remain afloat in this difficult market, they’d better do something pretty awesome, pretty fast.

Sadly, I didn’t hear about Columbus’ new legislation either so don’t feel bad. Thanks for some very welcome news!

    • Yeah UA is on a downward spiral. You’d think with the options available today people would be more conscientious of how they treat others.

  9. It’s amazing how quickly people will turn against an entire company because of the action of one employee. I’m not saying that it’s wrong, it’s just the power of social media. Companies would be wise to address the situation and make a public statement instead of saying, “they are looking into the accusations”. I couldn’t find any information about it on an actual news site – only on blogs and United’s facebook page. It’s interesting. If an employee treated ANYONE that way, they should be fired, I don’t care what kind of a day they were having – that is no way to treat another human being or dog, it’s completely unacceptable. You’re right . .WTF?

Good news about Ohio – I hope more cities and state start to follow their lead!

  10. I have a feeling that the united incident will have about as much effect as the United Breaks Guitars thing. I hate them and would gladly go 100-200 miles out of my way to avoid them

  11. Reading stuff like this you do have to wonder about the human condition. I hate flying too–wish I didn’t have to do it at all, but with relatives in Switzerland it is tough to avoid. Anyway, I’m glad I have you to keep me up on my weekly WTFs–not to mention that great whoo-hoo:)

  12. There are all kinds of not so nice people in this world but I like to think that just maybe the rest of us can kill them with kindness 😉

    and…

    way to go Ohio!!

  13. Working in the airline industry is unbelievably stressful nowadays for reasons we all know. This is another manifestation of that. Flying used to be exciting and fun. It’s now nothing short of drudgery. This unfortunate incident is not going to make their jobs any easier.

There was a made for TV movie called “Taking Chance” several months ago. It was about a Marine officer who was escorting the body of a fallen soldier, whose name was Chance, back to his hometown. The airlines were depicted as respectful and even reverent toward the marine and his cargo. They need a lot more of this type of publicity and a lot less of this kicking the dog and insulting the veteran type.

  14. Hi! I have nominated your blog for an award – check out my blog post today for more informaion http://wp.me/p1YBxO-pX have a fun day! Emma 🙂

  15. Kicking a dog is cowardly as is the use of offensive language. I would like to see an idiot try and kick me! No one has tried!

  16. Hey Jodi. I am absolutely horrified to hear this story. I would have personally liked to kick that horrible person.
